Young Redbacks make state team

Two Redbacks Hockey Club players have been selected in the South Australian schoolboys under 16 team to compete in the Pacific School Games in Canberra next month.
Harrison Gill and Cameron White are popular players in the division 1 men’s team and were instrumental in the club’s success in reaching the grand final this season.
Gill is renowned for his uncanny goal ability and was Redbacks’ leading scorer this year.
White is a skilful midfielder/forward and was recently included in the SA under 18 Academy squad.
Both players are hard workers in their chosen sport and deserve their State selection.
Redbacks club officials have wish them well and hope that many more of its strong pool of junior talent also win state recognition in the near future.
The Pacific School Games will be a special tournament as players will get the opportunity to compete against Japan, Singapore and Malaysia as well as other Australian states and territories.
WBFL coaches for 2009

WBFL premiers Portland have confirmed that Winis Imbi will coach again in 2009.
The Victorian Tigers were the last of the 10 WBFL clubs to name its coach and only Hamilton will have a new leader with former player Colin Riddle replacing Mark Watts, who has returned to Adelaide. Read more
Imperials to stay with WBFL

An application by Western Border Football League grand finalist Hamilton Imperials to join the Hampden Football Netball League has been rejected.
Representatives of Imperials, the WBFL and the HFNL met with officials from the Victorian Country Football League in Ballarat last Friday to state their case. Read more
East and Mil Lel open with victories

East Gambier and Mil Lel drew first blood in the opening round of the XXXX Gold One Day Cup cricket competition at the weekend.
East held on with a wicket to spare in its home fixture against West Gambier, while Mil Lel scored a four wicket victory over a hapless North Gambier outfit, which is still searching for its first victory in the Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association’s premier Barber Shield competition as well. Schroder claims second title

Mount Gambier 2-handicapper Hayden Schroder was forced into a sudden death playoff before claiming his second Wayne Scutter Memorial title at the Blue Lake Golf Links on Saturday.
Schroder shot a two over par 72 around the 5480 metre layout but was joined by local Blue Lake player Marc Dalton (5-handicap) and the pair were sent into overtime. Read more
Soccer academy tryouts a success

The Western Border Soccer Association held tryouts for its Junior Development Academy recently.
Around 85 boys and girls tried out for the academy, representing every Western Border Soccer Association and South East Women’s Football Association clubs, leaving organisers thrilled with the turnout. Read more
Mount Gambier tennis talent shines

The Mount Gambier Tennis Club has produced the champion singles players of the region, claiming both the men’s and women’s South East Invitation Singles Championships on Sunday.
Both victories also resulted in back-to-back success, with victors Paul Elliott and Kate Tollner defending their titles. Read more
