Pioneers welcome new major sposnor

The Mount Gambier Pioneers have lured a new sponsor — Castec Rural Supplies — on the eve of the 2010 South East Australian Basketball League season.

The announcement was made official in Penola yesterday morning and the team will now be known as the Castec Rural Pioneers. Read more

Exciting end to basketball season

The South East Coast Basketball League Finals begin next week, but the contestants and order will not be decided until Wednesday night when the last minor round is played.

Pioneers unveil power recruit

Standing over 200cm and boasting an impressive list of credentials and proven skill, 24-year-old American import Andy Tipton has been announced as the newest addition to the Mount Gambier Pioneers roster.

Hailing from Tennessee, a 203cm power forward arrived in Mount Gambier last weekend to begin training with the squad. Read more

New look Pioneers on show

Boomers defeat Lightning at Icehouse

Bulleen Boomers made it seven straight WNBL wins with a 79 – 66 win over Adelaide Lightning at the Icehouse in Mount Gambier on Friday night.

Former 36er signs with Pioneers

The Mount Gambier Pioneers have signed former Adelaide 36ers point guard, Matt Sutton for the 2010 South East Australian Basketball League season.

Sutton, 25, will add some much needed experience and depth to the Pioneers roster which is starting to take a definite shape in readiness for the team’s first game on March 13 against Frankston. Read more

Tough opener for the Pioneers

The 2010 SEABL fixture has been released and despite facing grand finalist Frankston on the road in the first match, newly appointed Pioneers head coach Andrew Summerville is confident of a good start.

The Pioneers begin the season with a double-header road trip in the first round beginning March 12.

“It’s tough to have a double header road trip at the start of the season, but it will be a good test to see where we’re at,” Summerville said.

“I’m not a huge believer in the scheduling making that much of a difference.

“We have to play them all at some stage and hopefully we’ll be ready.

“If we’re prepared for the beginning of the season I think we’ll be okay.”

Official training will begin on January 7, while in the meantime individual training and weights sessions are already under way.

Pioneers coaching panel finalised

The Mount Gambier Pioneers head coach, Andrew Summerville, has opted for local identities when choosing his assistant coaching staff for the 2010 SEABL season.

Former Pioneers championship winning assistant coach Kym Hammond will return to the panel along with last season’s assistant Peter Holmes and a newcomer to the role, David Todd. Read more
