74 teams enter junior tournament

All roads will lead to the Icehouse and five school gymnasiums for 74 junior basketball teams which will compete in the annual Braithwaite’s Carpet Choice Mount Gambier Junior Basketball Tournament this weekend.
Associations from country South Australia and Western Districts of Victoria have nominated teams to compete in under 12, 14, 16 and 18 boys and girls age groups. Read more

The club’s big man stocks have been provided a boost by the addition of veteran forward Andrew Rice and bolstered the guard rotation by signing current South Dragons squad member Tariq Naqqash. Read more

Junior basketballers from across the region made the most of the opportunity to gain expert tutelage from national league players on Sunday at the Icehouse.
About 70 young children were put through their paces by Women’s National Basketball League players from the Adelaide Lightning and the effort by the visiting team was well appreciated by participants. Read more
Adelaide Lightning d Bendigo 82-65

A dominant second quarter by the Adelaide Link Lightning set up an 82-65 win over the Bendigo Spirit in front of an appreciative crowd in Mount Gambier on Saturday night.
A 13-0 run did the bulk of the damage for the Lightning as they turned a 30-22 lead mid way through the second quarter into a 48-28 half time buffer. Read more

Four basketballers in state team

Four Basketball Mount Gambier juniors have been selected in the 2009 SA Country state under 15 teams to contest the Pacific Coast Slam in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, in January.
Samantha Loughhead, Emily Stafford, Matthew Parslow and Matthew Markiewicz are talented and hard working basketballers who represented SA Country in Albury in January this year and have been committed members of the state talent identification and local development programs throughout the year. Junior Lakers show impressive form

The Lakers junior basketball teams followed up their achievements in Murray Bridge with further successes in Millicent last weekend.
Seven teams represented Mount Gambier in the annual tournament where four played off in grand finals with two emerging victorious. Read more
