East Gambier and Mil Lel drew first blood in the opening round of the XXXX Gold One Day Cup cricket competition at the weekend.
East held on with a wicket to spare in its home fixture against West Gambier, while Mil Lel scored a four wicket victory over a hapless North Gambier outfit, which is still searching for its first victory in the Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association’s premier Barber Shield competition as well. Six teams compete for one-day title

The inaugural XXXX Gold One Day Cup - conducted by the Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association - will start tomorrow, weather permitting.
Originally the opening round was scheduled for November 2 until the climate intervened causing both fixtures to be postponed. Read more

Primary school student takes 4-0

Mulga Street Primary School student Ryan Hosking could be the next big cricket name to come from the Limestone Coast if his figures from last weekend are anything to go by.
Hosking (10) didn’t set the world on fire with the bat when his team, West Gambier Red took on Mil Lel, making just seven runs.
But the opening pace bowler let his actions do all the talking in the Mil Lel batting innings when he took 4-0, including a first over hat trick! Read more
Cricket grand finalists meet again

Last season’s Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association grand finalists - East and North - will lock horns again tomorrow in Round 3 action of the Barber Shield.
East won the 2007-08 title with a comfortable eight wicket margin after bowling North out for 130 and 85. Read more

Northern Knights gained its first points in an historic Mount Gambier District Cricket Association Barber Shield match when it tied with South Gambier at the weekend.

Mil Lel in form for Barber Shield

Mil Lel will be out to prove its giant-killing form in the opening round of the Mount Gambier District Cricket Association’s A grade Barber Shield was no fluke when it tackles reigning premiers, East Gambier on Saturday.
Mil Lel will host East Gambier at the Mount Gambier High School wicket over the next two weekends and will be looking to capitalise on its tremendous start. Read more
Cricket carnival selection recognised

The City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund has awarded $400 to Moung Gambier & District Junior Cricket for Mark Smith, 12, of Compton.
Mark was selected in the U13 State Boys SAPSASA cricket team and attended the national cricket carnival in Darwin from June 15-23.
“The fund is extremely pleased to make this donation which will assist our local sportsperson to achieve excellence and to be able to compete at a national level to gain valuable experience,” secretary Greg Muller said.
