WBFL coaches for 2009

WBFL premiers Portland have confirmed that Winis Imbi will coach again in 2009.
The Victorian Tigers were the last of the 10 WBFL clubs to name its coach and only Hamilton will have a new leader with former player Colin Riddle replacing Mark Watts, who has returned to Adelaide. Read more
Imperials to stay with WBFL

An application by Western Border Football League grand finalist Hamilton Imperials to join the Hampden Football Netball League has been rejected.
Representatives of Imperials, the WBFL and the HFNL met with officials from the Victorian Country Football League in Ballarat last Friday to state their case. Read more
Copping named region’s top coach

South Gambier Football Club senior coach Jon Copping has been named the South East’s top coach by the Glenelg Football Club in Adelaide.
Copping, who was named coach of the Western Border Football League’s team of the year and The Border Watch’s team of the year, was also acknowledged for his efforts at an award dinner at the Kybybolite Football Club last Saturday night. Read more
Kilsby returns to North Gambier

Anthony Kilsby has returned to North Gambier Football Club.
After playing with the SA Tigers in 2005-06, Kilsby returns to the club after two tough seasons as playing coach of Kalangadoo in the Mid South East competition. Read more
Under 19s show the way for Glenelg

Glenelg’s hope of breaking its 22 year senior SANFL premiership drought ended in disaster on Sunday.
The Tigers had been one of the best sides in the competition this season, but failed to produce on grand final day when they were crushed by a Central Districts side that won its seventh premiership this decade.
But, the day was not all bad for the club, as the under 19s won the premiership with a spirited 18 point victory over Sturt. Read more
Carlton great had Mount Gambier link

A controversial former Carlton player with Mount Gambier connections is the subject of a new book being written by Tasmanian Craig Mackie.
Mackie wrote to The Border Watch saying William Alexander Lang, known as Alex or “Bongo”, married a Mount Gambier woman Catherine McVicar on Feburary 15, 1937. Read more
South East flavour to Glenelg line-up

As many as nine former South East footballers could be lining up for Glenelg in Sunday’s SANFL grand final against Central Districts.
On a day the Tigers play in their first grand final since 1992 and look to end a 22 year premiership drought, coach Mark Mickan will rely on a number of former South East players. Read more
Adam Price named Glencoe coach

Adam Price will coach Glencoe in 2009. Price was named the new senior coach of the Murphies at the club’s annual presentation night last Friday.
Price replaces Matthew “Molly” Patzel, who guided the side to grand finals in both of his seasons in charge. Read more
VCFL yet to receive Imperials’ request

The Victorian Country Football League (VCFL) has declined to be drawn into the debate about Hamilton Imperials possibly leaving the Western Border Football League to play in the Hampden League.
Director Gerard Lucas told The Border Watch yesterday the VCFL has not received any notification of Imperials’ intended move. Read more
WBFL clubs want imperials to stay

Fellow Western Border Football League clubs don’t want Hamilton Imperials to leave the competition.
Last Thursday night Imperials club members overwhelmingly voted to move to the Hampden Football-Netball League for the start of the 2009 season.
This decision is a blow to the WBFL, which is yet to receive formal confirmation of the club’s decision. Read more
