Tigers hope to roar on grand final day

Tigers Hockey Club will look to capitalise on a dominant season in the Lower South East Hockey Association senior Divisions with five out of six sides qualifying for this weekend’s grand finals.

The men’s Division one grand final tomorrow afternoon at 3pm will see a rematch of the semi final between Tigers and Redbacks a fortnight ago where Tigers won by goal scored in the dying minutes of the game. Read more

Redbacks win U13 hockey title

Redbacks claimed the under 13 boys hockey premiership when they met Riddoch Strikers in near perfect weather.

Redbacks entered the match as slight favourites, beating Strikers during the season and 6 – 0 in the semi-final, although Strikers were missing several players at the time. Read more

Carly advances her hockey career

Carly Emerson’s fledgling hockey career has just been given a gigantic boost.

The talented 15-year-old, who lives at Drik Drik near Dartmoor but attends school in Mount Gambier at Tenison Woods College, has just been selected in the newly created Hockey SA Kukri Academy.

The academy is aimed at boys and girls aged between 12 – 16 years, who show promising hockey potential. Read more

Hockey club invests in face masks

Portland Hockey Club has become the first club in the Lower South East Hockey Association to purchase and provide a set of four specially designed masks for its junior players in a bid to reduce facial injuries.

The masks are designed to protect player’s faces when defending short corners where a deflection or risen ball is not uncommon which can cause serious damage. Read more

Wanderers return from Canada

Mount Gambier hockey players Kimberley Wilson, Renae Nicholson and Sarah Marty recently ventured to Canada and America on a three-week tour with Wanderers Australia.

The Mount Gambier based trio joined about 50 other Australians in three hockey teams — one male and two female — which played against Canadian club and University teams. Read more

Kerry Pedlar recently represented South Australia at the hockey national championships’ 40 – 45 year old age group and in the same year, will share the state colours with daughter Eliza. Read more
