A South African daily newspaper has criticised the construction of dwellings on the Limestone Coast. A reader of the Daily Dispatch in East London sent photographs to the newspaper with negative comments.

Mount Gambier is experiencing a building boom, according to figures released by the city council.

“Mount Gambier is experiencing continued growth in all building areas and in particular with new housing, which is viewed as a good gauge of the local economy,” Cr Eugene Coscarelli said. Read more

Top honor for Kimberly Clark

The Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) recently released the 2008 EOWA Employer of Choice for Women List.

Kimberly-Clark Australia, which has a plant at Millicent, was among the list of organisations recognised. The company said factors in its recognition included investing in leadership training and development at all levels of management and the introduction of 12 weeks paid maternity leave. Read more

Perryman declares for Libs

Mount Gambier mayor Steve Perryman has confirmed he will nominate for Liberal preselection for the seat of Mount Gambier at the next state election.

Cr Perryman will join retailer Peter Gandolfi, who narrowly won preselection for the 2006 election from Grant District Council Mayor Don Pegler.

The current Member for Mount Gambier, Rory McEwen, has previously indicated he will not contest the May 2010 election.

Arts bid shortlisted

Mount Gambier is one of four South Australian towns nominated for the 2010 Regional Centre of Culture program.

The year-long arts initiative has taken its inspiration from international models such as the European Capital of Culture. Read more

Minister urges flu jab

Health Minister John Hill is reminding South Australians that the time is right to have a flu shot to protect against the coming flu season.

Mr Hill said those who were vulnerable to flu, the elderly, people who are ill, and health workers on the front line, needed to get their annual vaccination sooner rather than later. Read more
