Dance competition raises $20,000

Victorian forest tracks to close

The Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) advises that it will be closing all firewood areas in state forests around Portland on Monday, July 7 to prevent damage to forest roads and tracks.

The winter closure is in place to reduce traffic through state forests during the wettest part of the year. Read more

Timber plantations expand 4.7pc

The area of Australia’s timber plantations increased by 4.7pc in 2007, according to new figures from the Bureau of Rural Sciences (BRS).

BRS executive director Dr Colin Grant said the annual Australia’s Plantations Inventory Update shows plantations now cover more than 1.90 million hectares. Read more

Mount Gambier is becoming increasingly popular as a place for people to relocate and live.

That’s the message conveyed in the Adelaide Advertiser on Saturday, with many people saying they were attracted by the region’s secure water supply.

The report says the city council is receiving at least five calls a week from SA residents north of Bordertown who inquire about the city’s water situation. Read more
