Fishermen hope for good lobster season

Port MacDonnell is a hive of activity as the largest rock lobster port in southern Australia gears up for the opening of the 2008-09 season on Wednesday.

While hopes are high of a buoyant season ahead, fishermen — who were busy fine tuning their vessels and stocking their boats with pots — conceded they were nervous about the season ahead which starts on Wednesday morning at 6am. Read more

No danger from Chinese milk

The State Government has reassured consumers there is no immediate danger of contaminated Chinese milk products being sold in the state.

Responding to the withdrawal of White Rabbit Candy lollies and Cadbury Eclairs, both containing Chinese milk products, SA Health director of public health Kevin Buckett said the recall was a precautionary measure. Read more

Centrals is the 2008 Shadows/Belgiorno Cup champion. The Lions defeated International at Casidio Park 4 – 1 on Sunday to claim the prize and head to next season full of hope as they look to reclaim the mantle as the top club in Western Border soccer.

Irish scam traders on the run

Immigration Department officials are hot on the trail of about 50 travelling Irish traders who have sold dodgy electrical goods to unsuspecting South East residents in a countrywide scam.

The traders entered Australia via the Brisbane international airport on a variety of visas which, in most cases, did not allow them to work in Australia, according to Department of Immigration and Citizenship spokesman Bill Power. Read more
