Highland pipe band enjoys resurgence

The Mount Gambier RSL Blue Lake Highland Pipe Band is enjoying a resurgence with new young members, bold banners and renewed enthusiasm.

A Scottish Ceilidh social gathering was recently held at the group’s new base in the former cycling club hall at Vansittart Park, featuring performances by the band, along with other entertainers, including the Ardlair School of Dancing. Read more

Minister investigates facility funding

Lambert Village’s threat to cut services to its disabled and aged residents from Monday has been postponed to January 1.

The Mount Gambier private supported accommodation facility owner Alister Armstrong last month vowed to cut services from December 1 if the State Government failed to increase funding, but Housing and Ageing Minister Jennifer Rankine called for a postponement to investigate the matter. Read more

E-waste problem continues

Although the community has responded well to the ban on e-waste from household bins, e-waste is still a problem.

Mount Gambier City Councillor Des Mutton said while Council was happy with the increased uptake of the e-waste service, it was still apparent from inspection of the Caroline Landfill that many e-waste items were not being disposed of via the recycling service at the waste transfer centre. Register interest in solar neighbourhood

A solar neighbourhood project for Mount Gambier will be launched at two information and enrolment sessions on Wednesday.

At least 50 people have already expressed written interest in joining the project, which aims to reduce greenhouse gases in the region by at least 50 tonnes a year. Read more

Merrett had a very consistent season for the Roos in the Western Border Football League, but is now a major part of the re-building KNTFL Eagles side that is looking to return to the finals under second year coach Paul Mullen. Read more
