Three new exploration licences awarded

Three new petroleum exploration licences have been granted onshore in the South East, raising hopes of significant new gas and oil discoveries.

Adelaide Energy bid successfully for two blocks in the Otway Basin near Penola and Donovans while Cooper Energy also won the right to explore a block in the Penola trough. Read more

Arson charge laid after shed fire

A 60-year-old Mount Gambier man was arrested for arson after police and MFS units were called to a shed fire on Commercial Street West about 1.40am yesterday.

A passer-by noticed the fire and alerted the MFS. The fire was extinguished before fire crews arrived, with minimal damage caused to wooden gates on the shed. Read more

Police warn New Year revellers

South East police have warned revellers tonight to obey the law or face the consequences as thousands of people flock to licensed venues in Mount Gambier and traditional party spots along the coast.

Heritage walk planned for Port Mac

Construction of a heritage walk with interpretive signs is planned at Port MacDonnell to celebrate the 150th anniversary of being declared a town in April 2010.
