Dairy company profits plummet

Dairy giant Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory (WCB) yesterday announced an “unprecedented downturn” in financial results for the year ending June 30.
WCB revenue was down 16pc to $441m on last year’s result. Read more
Gunns confirms interest in Timbercorp

Tasmanian timber giant Gunns has publicly confirmed speculation it will seek to expand its growing forestry venture by acquiring a stake in the assets of collapsed managed investment scheme companies Timbercorp and Great Southern.
Gunns announced a $56.2m full-year profit to the Australian Stock Exchange yesterday, a decline of 4.9pc on the previous year. Read more

Vodafone extends 3G network

Vodafone’s 3G network goes live in the South East today, increasing competition and offering choice and value to customers in Mount Gambier, Millicent, Penola and Naracoorte.
Vodafone customers in upgraded areas can now access 3G services on-the-move, such as internet and email on their mobile phone, or laptop via Vodafone mobile broadband. Read more

Millicent man faces child porn charge

A Millicent man charged with possession of child pornography will face trial at the Southern District Criminal Court in Mount Gambier on October 6.
The man, 40, was also charged with two breaches of a domestic violence restraining order when he appeared at the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Monday. Read more

Students experience night on the street

Thirty Tenison Woods College Year 12 students braved chilly four degree temperatures one night recently to show their support and gain an insight into the issue of homelessness.
Students were asked to give up their comfort for a night to eat and live as a homeless person does to support the St Vincent De Paul Society’s Winter Appeal. Read more
