State amateur titles in Mount Gambier

The Golf SA Senior Men’s Amateur Championship will be held over three days at the Mount Gambier Golf Club from Monday, November 2 to November 4, played over 54 holes with 18 holes of stroke play each day.

The event is open to male amateur golfers who are 55 years of age or over, within the handicap limit of 15.4 and members of clubs affiliated with Golf SA or State or overseas associations. Read more

Regional development delays criticised

Shadow Minister for Regional Development, John Dawkins, says time is running out for the State and Federal Governments to announce South Australia’s seven Regional Development Australia (RDA) boards.

Mr Dawkins has called on state minister Paul Caica and federal parliamentary secretary Maxine McKew to expedite the appointments so funding arrangements can be finalised before the end of the year. Read more

Podium finish for Steve Lines

The Bill Wigzell “Battle of the Bridge” sprintcar classic at Murray Bridge Speedway last weekend saw Mount Gambier’s Steve Lines finish on the podium.

In just his second start for the 2009-10 racing season, Lines finished third in the 30 lap feature race behind former Tasmanian driver David Murcott and Luke Dillon. Read more

Parents demand answers on son’s death

The parents of a young man who died of suspected swine flu will call for a coronial inquest into his death and his treatment at Mount Gambier Hospital if they are not given answers over the tragedy.

Mount Gambier residents Hans and Mary Taankink are still struggling to come to terms with the death of their 26-year-old son Andrew, who died at Flinders Medical Centre on October 1. Read more

The Yalumba Wine Company’s 2006 Menzies “The Cigar” Cabernet Sauvignon has collected four trophies at the 2009 Limestone Coast Wine Show.

After being named ‘Best Cabernet Sauvignon’ and ‘Best Red Wine’, the prized drop went on to claim the Bill Redman Trophy for ‘Best Wine of Show’ after two intense days of judging this week at the Coonawarra Hall. Read more
