MOUNT Gambier police will raise the issue of lighting at the Glenburnie Racecourse for the Gold Cup Carnival after a 36-year-old mother was struck and killed by a car last Friday night.

Mount Gambier quadriplegic Garry Blair is finally home with his family after a wait of almost two years to secure carers.
Relieved to be home with partner Bec Rose and their five children, Garry told The Border Watch he could now finally come to terms with the consequences of a dirt bike accident in 2008 which left him in the same physical state as former Superman star Christopher Reeve. Read more
Tragedy sparks cliff danger alert

Grant District Council officers yesterday inspected the site of this week’s tragic fatal cliff fall at Cape Douglas to determine whether action was needed to secure the area.
A Victorian tourist, 30, plunged to her death on Tuesday, April 27, after she lost her footing while taking photographs at a cliff face, 25km south west of Mount Gambier. Read more
Mid-flight lightning scare

A REGIONAL Express plane en route from Mount Gambier was struck by lightning on Tuesday morning when it flew in to land at Adelaide as wild storms lashed the city.
While passengers on board flight ZL4612 escaped injury, some were left rattled as a loud bang was heard on the left wing. Read more
Two young men saved from burning car

A 63-year-old farmer from Furner saved the lives of two teenaged car crash victims when he helped them escape from a burning vehicle on Saturday night.
Peter Varcoe and his wife were travelling on the Robe-Penola Road about 11.30pm when an oncoming vehicle spun out of control at a bend and crashed. Read more
Waddling ducks trigger collision

A flock of ducks indirectly caused a $10,000 vehicle collision at Beachport on Monday morning.
A Beachport woman, aged 37, stopped her Toyota 4WD to let the ducks waddle safely across Railway Terrace about 9am when she was was rear-ended by a 36-year-old woman, also of Beachport, driving a Nissan sedan. Read more
Head-on collision investigated

Investigations will continue into Monday night’s head-on smash on the Portland-Nelson Road that saw two men trapped in their vehicles for more than an hour-and-a-half.
A Portland resident, 33, was flown by ambulance helicopter to the Warrnambool Base Hospital with lower leg injuries and a 61-year-old Mount Gambier man was taken to the Mount Gambier Hospital, also with lower leg injuries. Read more
Farmer killed in electrical accident

The tragic death of Kalangadoo farmer Andrew Childs, 44, who was electrocuted on Monday morning, has stunned the Lower South East agricultural community.
Emergency services were called to a property five kilometres from Kalangadoo on the Nangwarry Road just after 10am, where the man was found dead on arrival. Read more

Car hits girl near police station

A four-year old girl was taken to hospital after she was hit by a car outside the Mount Gambier police station on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, a driver travelling south on Bay Road swerved to avoid the girl, who had run onto the road, but could not avoid her. Read more
