Admella wins Battle of the Bands

Members of Mount Gambier five-piece Admella rushed from work to the Shadows stage last Friday night to perform a solid half hour set and take out the top band award at the city’s annual Battle of the Bands.
The new wave hardcore metal band, featuring 22 year old vocalist Jacob Bradley, 17 year olds Tom Wilson on guitar and Nathan Wilson on bass, 19 year old Gavin Robertson on guitar and 28 year old drummer Steve Davis, won a PA system from Dale Cleves Yamaha for their efforts. Read more
Bands battle at Shadows

Guitarists will wield their axes in a showdown at Shadows tomorrow night (Friday, November 20) as top rock acts from across the region compete in Mount Gambier’s annual Battle of the Bands.
The night is set to be dominated by bands from the heavier end of the rock spectrum with Mount Gambier metal acts Neck Deep, Admella, No Heroes Here, Despair to Glory and Burning Alaska. Read more
Global Battle of the Bands

South East bands will have the chance to compete in a heat of the world’s biggest band competition next weekend at Flanagans Irish Pub.
The Global Battle of the Bands features a US$100,000 top prize with bands offered the chance to progress from regional heats to state finals and then battle against the world’s best in London, with flights and accommodation paid. Read more
City band tunes up for titles

Mount Gambier City Band members will be on the road to Adelaide today to attempt to reclaim their title in the South Australian Bands Association State Championships.
The band will compete in the C grade of the competition at Scotch College, which it won last time it took part in the event a decade ago. Read more
Band’s winter concert on Sunday

Sacred, popular, swing and traditional items will feature in Mount Gambier City Band’s winter concert on Sunday.
Mount Gambier vocalist Father Richard Morris and Casterton pianist Father Andrew Hayes will feature as guest artists for the event at St Paul’s Church alongside the 25-member band, directed by Graeme Lyall.
The band will also perform items it is rehearsing for the South Australian State Championships to be held in Adelaide in August.
Admission will be by gold coin donation for the concert, which begins at 2pm, and afternoon tea will be available.
Highland pipe band enjoys resurgence

The Mount Gambier RSL Blue Lake Highland Pipe Band is enjoying a resurgence with new young members, bold banners and renewed enthusiasm.
A Scottish Ceilidh social gathering was recently held at the group’s new base in the former cycling club hall at Vansittart Park, featuring performances by the band, along with other entertainers, including the Ardlair School of Dancing. Read more
Hercules in NY playing at Millicent

Dance-pop-electro outfit Hercules in NY are travelling to Millicent this weekend to play on Saturday (November 22) at the Civic and Arts Centre with Behind Crimson Eyes.
Following the release of the band’s debut AA single in April some of Hercules in NY’s highlights have been national and community radio play, feature artist in jmag (September) and Triple J unearthed (June), playing at Bass in the Grass (Darwin) and Groovin The Moo (Maitland, NSW) festivals, and sharing the stage with Australian acts Little Red, The Potbelleez and The Custom Kings.
Millicent youth group hosts band

Australian band Behind Crimson Eyes will perform a one-off concert in Millicent later this month.

Unchartered rocks to victory

Mount Gambier band Unchartered rocked their way to victory in the Mount Gambier Battle of the Bands on Sunday in the group’s first live performance.
