March against fluoridation

People opposed to the fluouridation of Mount Gambier’s water supply will protest with a march and rally on Saturday, January 16.
The Choice Mount Gambier group has distributed flyers to households this week, inviting supporters to join the demonstration.
Construction work on the Blue Lake fluoridation plant began earlier this month with excavations to prepare for the construction of a 60 square metre stone building above the pumping station to house the plant. Read more

Fluoride plant construction begins

Construction work on Mount Gambier’s fluoridation plant at the Blue Lake pumping station began on Monday.
The soil is currently being excavated in preparation for the construction of a 60 square metre stone building above the pumping station which will house the plant. Read more

The Mount Gambier community will celebrate the 91st birthday of The Rook Walk this Friday.
The 203m long handmade wall is considered to be one of Mount Gambier’s most historical landmarks.
Located next to the picturesque Blue Lake, The Rook Walk was built in just one day by residents on November 27, 1918. Read more

While touring the South East this week to judge entrants in the 2009 KESAB Tidy Towns awards, sustainability director Luke Gallaghan said the Blue Lake awards were fantastic. Read more

Council reprieves business awards

After the withdrawal of Federal Government funding brought the prestigious environmental Blue Lake Business of the Year Awards to a halt, the Mount Gambier City Council has now found a way to go ahead with it this year.
Council recently announced the award would be discontinued due to the withdrawal of about $110,000 in funding which paid for the employment of former Blue Lake Watercare officer Claire Kinloch and various projects, including the awards. Read more
New look for Rotary lookout

The Rotary Club lookout overlooking the Blue Lake is undergoing a makeover thanks to Target Work students from the Independent Learning Centre under the supervision of local builder Ben Merchant.
The project began on June 29 and students have been working at the site one day a week since.
The old pavers, hand rails, windbreak and the concrete floor have been removed. Read more
