Bushfire defence boost for Nelson

Nelson’s bushfire defences have received a major boost with the opening of a $200,000 multi-purpose facility and the handover of a new $92,000 two-seater tanker.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney, opened the facility and handed over the keys to the two-seater tanker on Sunday. Read more

SA reviews bushfire recommendations

The Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission has released interim findings on its inquiry into the Black Saturday bushfires, revealing 51 recommendations to better prepare and protect communities from future tragedy.
Findings related to bushfire prevention through changes ahead of the next fire season have been welcomed by the South Australian Government, which established a bushfire taskforce in March to assess the recommendations. Read more
Coleraine saved from fire devastation

A wind change saved Coleraine from a similar fate to other Victorian towns that were destroyed by fire at the weekend.
However, one man was left with burns to 50pc of his body after trying to assist a neighbour in the blaze and was flown to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition. Read more
Two Naracoorte fires extinguished

Country Fire Service volunteer firefighters contained two fires near Naracoorte yesterday afternoon.
Just before 2pm CFS responded to a haystack fire on the corner of the Hynam to Kybybolite Road and Penders Road, east of Naracoorte. Read more
‘Borderhop’ strengthens ties

Strong cross-border ties between the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS) and Victoria’s Country Fire Authority (CFA) will be further strengthened during a joint exercise on Sunday.
Senior firefighters from the two organisations will take part in “Exercise Borderhop” involving members of the Southern Border Fire Liaison Committee, including ForestrySA, Victoria’s Department of Sustainability and Environment and various forest industry brigades. Read more
