Head lice ‘census’ under way

Amid new reports of head lice in Mount Gambier schools, the first ever census of head lice has been launched to collect data on the nature of the unwelcome little parasite that everyone dreads.

The census, in the form of an online survey, is part of this week’s National Head Lice Awareness Week to provide parents and schools with up-to-date information on finding, treating and preventing head lice. Read more

Principals learn about neuroscience

More than 100 education leaders from across the Limestone Coast converged on Mount Gambier City Hall yesterday and Sunday for a conference focused on tapping into neuroscience research to enhance classroom learning.

City council to upgrade playgrounds

Mount Gambier City Council has unveiled plans to significantly upgrade several playgrounds over a three-year period.

Council has proposed pouring $35,000 into the Stiles Street playground in 2010-11 and $50,000 into the popular Valley Lake playground in 2011-12, continuing to upgrade what is a major asset and attraction in the city.

Meanwhile, $30,000 is likely to be spent on the ageing Ramsay Avenue playground in 2012 – 13.

Smacking still a hit with parents
