Digital TV switch set for December 15

Communications Minister Stephen Conroy this week confirmed that regional South Australia will switch to digital-only television on December 15.

The South East will be one of the first regions to change over. The process is not expected to be completed across Australia until the end of 2013. Read more

Slow road to broadband super highway

A Green Triangle chapter of the Australian Computer Society will be formed as the region prepares to catch up to capital cities on the information super highway with the roll-out of new infrastructure to accelerate communication.

“Implementation of the National Broadband Network will mean people in Mount Gambier will move from broadband that is at best a couple of megabits per second to more than 100,” ACS telecommunications board director Professor Reg Coutts told The Border Watch. Read more

Vodafone extends 3G network

Vodafone’s 3G network goes live in the South East today, increasing competition and offering choice and value to customers in Mount Gambier, Millicent, Penola and Naracoorte.

Vodafone customers in upgraded areas can now access 3G services on-the-move, such as internet and email on their mobile phone, or laptop via Vodafone mobile broadband. Read more
