A blitz of traders in the South East by the State’s consumer watchdog will ensure that local residents are getting a fair deal.

South East households could save an average of at least $96 a year after unit pricing became mandatory in large supermarkets this week.

Some stores don’t measure up

Some hardware stores in the South East do not measure up under the Trade Measurement Act, according to the State Government.

At least 12 hardware stores have been found to use length measures not approved for trade while some others were found to use none at all, possibly leaving customers paying for incorrect lengths of items. Read more

Warning issued on dodgy set-top boxes

Consumer Affairs Minister Gail Gago has warned South East residents against door-to-door traders who sell television set-top boxes for $149.

Ms Gago said the South East was being targeted by door-to-door traders offering set-top boxes, but said the traders were breaching fair trading laws by not providing consumers with a written contract and cooling-off documents. Read more

People with an allergy or intolerance to gluten have been warned not to consume certain Two Minute Chef products which have been recalled from the shelves.

The ready-to-eat products Two Minute Chef, Macaroni with Cheese sauce, Spaghetti Bolognese and Black Pepper with Rice, all packed in cardboard boxes with trays and sachets inside, have been recalled due to containing undeclared gluten. Read more
