Knife-wielding bandit robs beauty salon

An unmasked knife-wielding bandit forced a Mount Gambier hairdresser to hand over $50 when he held up her salon on Friday night, telling her it was his Christmas money.
“What he didn’t realise was that it was actually my Christmas money that I’d worked hard for,” Kelly Salievic, owner of Liquid Hair and Beauty, told The Border Watch yesterday. Read more
Thieves and vandals hit construction site

Renovations and extensions to the Lake Terrace Boandik Lodge aged care facility are being jeopardised by unknown, “well prepared” miscreants, who have taken to stealing anything that has not been bolted down at the Dycer Constructions site on Downer Road.
Police have intensified their hunt for the culprits, following vandalism that included $3000 damage to wiring at the half-finished premises overnight on Tuesday. Read more
9.2pc drop in South East crime

Limestone Coast police Superintendent Trevor Twilley has attributed a 9.2pc crime reduction in the past year to the efforts of those under his command, acknowledging the region’s officers for their commitment to community safety.

Counterfeit notes circulate in South East

Counterfeit cash has been circulating in the South East over recent weeks, prompting police to warn that people should check their notes and report fakes immediately.
A counterfeit $50 note was reported at a Naracoorte hotel several weeks ago.
Mount Gambier hotels, a supermarket, a bank and a taxi company have also been stung. Read more
Recycling thieves strike golf club

Blue Lake Public Golf Links manager Bill Burley has had a gutful of unknown thieves entering the course at night to steal recyclable bottles and cans.
