Expansion planned at heritage site

THE Piccaninnie Ponds Conservation Park may be expanded by another 310 hectares if the State Government approves a proposal by the Department of Heritage and Environment (DEH).

Outlining the proposal at a Grant District Council meeting on Monday, May 17th, DEH Lower South East district ranger Ross Anderson said the expansion would enhance the park’s importance as a conservation and tourist area. Read more

Reprieve for diving at Ewens Ponds

The Department of Environment and Heritage (DEH) has decided against its proposed ban on scuba diving in Ewens Ponds

DEH earlier this year angered scuba divers when it apparently pinned the declining conditions of the ponds on the divers and proposed the ban in the Ewens Ponds Conservation Park Management Plan — a move which drew strong objection from the Scuba Divers Federation (SDF) of SA. Read more

Scuba divers hung out to dry

Scuba divers believe they have been hung out to dry over a proposal to ban them from Ewens Ponds and Eight Mile Creek.

The Department of Environment and Heritage (DEH) has suggested in a draft management plan amendment that recreational activities in the ponds be reduced to snorkelling only. Read more

Diver’s death prompts safety warning

The death of an experienced local diver off the coast of Port MacDonnell has prompted police to issue a warning to those looking to dive alone.

Despite having more than 20 years experience, the body of the man known so far only as Greg was found 30 metres offshore about 7am on Friday. Read more
