Geothermal project steams ahead

Resources and Energy Minister, Martin Ferguson, today opened the Panax geothermal project near Penola.

Panax successfully applied for $7 million under round one of the Federal Government’s $50 million Geothermal Drilling Program.

Visiting the site, Mr Ferguson said South Australia offers great opportunity to develop geothermal energy technology. Read more

Gas production ramps up

Adelaide Energy plans to double or even triple gas production from its Katnook plant near Penola in the coming months.

Macquarie backs proposed wind farm

Robe Wind Pty Ltd announced yesterday it has reached an agreement with Macquarie Capital Group Limited for the development of a wind farm along the Woakwine range between Beachport and Mount Benson.

Macquarie will be responsible for all of the ongoing development activities for the proposed wind farm. Read more

Government buildings to go solar

Solar panels will be mandatory for all new and substantially refurbished government buildings from July 1 next year, Premier Mike Rann announced this week.

Speaking from Copenhagen, where he was chairing the international States and Regions Alliance Climate Leaders Summit, Mr Rann said this was another action the government was taking to move South Australia towards an even greater uptake of renewable energy. Read more

Clean energy fuels employment hopes

A new report has predicted more than $1.2b will be poured into clean energy projects in the South East over the next decade, creating nearly 3000 construction jobs and 500 permanent positions.

The South East is poised to become the clean energy capital of regional Australia, with the highest amount of expenditure predicted to be spent in the Limestone Coast. Read more

Mount Gambier is ideally placed to become the national hub of Australia’s alternative energy industry.

The Green Triangle region is already producing electricity derived from wind and geothermal sources.

Success fuels energy plans

After last year’s successful run to establish a solar neighbourhood project for electricity generation, the search is on for South East residents to bulk buy into a solar hot water project.

Community Action for Sustainability (CAS) established the solar neighbourhood project for residents by taking advantage of reduced bulk prices and government rebates and now plans to do the same to get a solar hot water neighbourhood off the ground. Read more
