Flu vaccine shortage halts vaccination program

A shortage of seasonal flu vaccine has brought vaccinations to a halt at the Child and Family Health Centre on Heriot Street.
Mount Gambier City Council community health officer Christine Plunkett said council was not able to administer vaccinations to groups eligible for the free service due to medical clinics and pharmacies being unable to access the vaccine. Read more

The long-awaited H1N1 pandemic vaccination program has kicked off in the South East with the arrival of the first batches of vaccine.
The vaccine is available from GPs across the South East, but according to Mount Gambier City Council community health worker Christine Plunkett, priority will be given to existing patients. Read more

One of South Australia’s largest pig producers has moved to calm fears over the outbreak of swine flu, but has warned the full ramifications of the mutated strain is not yet known.

Minister urges flu jab

Health Minister John Hill is reminding South Australians that the time is right to have a flu shot to protect against the coming flu season.
Mr Hill said those who were vulnerable to flu, the elderly, people who are ill, and health workers on the front line, needed to get their annual vaccination sooner rather than later. Read more
