Swine flu vaccine for kids available

Swine flu vaccinations are now available in Mount Gambier for children between the ages of six months and nine years, following government approval for the Australian-made Panvax H1N1 Vaccine Junior.
Vaccinations for adults and children over 10 years old started in October in the South East, while awaiting approval of vaccinations for babies and children. Read more
Whooping cough vaccinations surge

Mount Gambier is experiencing a surge in demand for whooping cough vaccination as a spike in the outbreak of the serious respiratory infection continues.
City Council’s community health officer Christine Plunkett said an increase in the number of adult enquiries had been noticeable. Read more
Flu vaccine supply runs short

The high demand for influenza vaccination this year has caused a temporary shortage in supply.
The Mount Gambier City Council has advised the shortage is for user-pay vaccine services and is unlikely to affect those people who are eligible for free vaccines through their medical practitioner. Read more
Immunisation rules set to change

From January 1 parents and guardians will need to have their children immunised within one month of their fourth birthday to retain their childcare subsidy.
Under new changes to the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register, a child is considered overdue for vaccination at the age of four years and one month, while currently vaccinations are considered overdue when a child turns five. Read more
