Redmond flags talks with independents

A leading political analyst claimed yesterday the outcome of the state election in the seat of Mount Gambier was “too hard to call” and foreshadowed the major parties could have to strike deals with independents to form government.

Associate Professor Clement Macintyre, from the University of Adelaide, said polls showing a swing to the Liberal Party in Adelaide indicated there was a looming scenario of a possible cliffhanger. Read more

Liberals pledge cash for travel scheme

The Liberal Party has pledged an additional $4 million over four years to the South Australian Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS) if it wins the March 20 election.

The PATS program makes specialist medical services more accessible to rural South Australians by assisting with the cost of transport and accommodation expenses when travelling more than 100km (one way) to the nearest medical specialist. Read more

Libs rule out forward selling forests

Opposition leader Isobel Redmond has ruled out a future Liberal Government forward selling timber plantings.

Ms Redmond made the announcement at Tarpeena as part of a two-day visit by the State Liberals to Mount Gambier.

Independent says Libs were spooked

Opposition leader Isobel Redmond has announced a State Liberal Government would invest 25pc of South Australia’s mining royalties into the Regional Development Infrastructure Fund if elected in 2010.

Ms Redmond said this would amount to more than $40m per year to secure infrastructure and creates jobs in regional South Australia and could rise to almost $50m by 2013. Read more

On Saturday, Mr Hamilton-Smith defeated Vickie Chapman 11 – 10 in a spill motion.
