Government outlines hospital investment

Chemotherapy treatments at the Mount Gambier Hospital have risen from 67 in 2006-07 to 516 in 2008-09, according to Health Minister John Hill.

The increased treatments were offered through a new coordinated cancer care network based at the hospital, Mr Hill revealed only days after the Grant District Council called on the Mount Gambier Hospital to explore opportunities for a regional cancer centre. Read more

Hospital carpark upgrade planned

The State Government has announced it will extend the carpark at Mount Gambier Hospital to alleviate the shortfall at the public health facility.

This follows people being forced to park on grass areas, squeeze into non-carparking areas around the busy hospital or park on adjacent streets. Read more

Minister seeks report on hospital incident

Health Minister John Hill has asked for a report from Country Health SA into an incident that occurred last month at Mount Gambier Hospital.

This follows a Mount Gambier man saying he felt compelled to drive his seriously ill wife to Adelaide at night for urgent treatment. Read more

Plan to modernise public health laws

Tougher enforcement powers and huge fines are part of a new Public Health Bill released on the weekend for public consultation.

Health Minister John Hill said the Public Health Bill 2009 will strengthen and modernise South Australia’s public health laws and replace the outdated Public and Environmental Health Act 1987. Read more

Funding boost for hospital theatre

Health Minister John Hill has announced a $400,000 upgrade of the Mount Gambier Hospital’s operating theatre.

The Mount Gambier, Gawler and Clare hospitals will also share in $630,000 in funding towards sterilising equipment. Read more

Health Minister renews hospital pledge

Health Minister John Hill has again pledged the State Government’s commitment to improving health services in Mount Gambier.

Mr Hill yesterday promised six new interns and two paediatricians at the Mount Gambier Hospital in the new year, more elective surgery and “obviously” additional funding. Read more
