New commercials target speeding

The Motor Accident Commission (MAC) has launched a series of new anti speeding commercials to drive home the dangers of irresponsible driving behaviour.

Police clamp down on illegal fog lights

Limestone Coast police will target drivers using vehicle fog lights illegally over the next two weeks to address the road safety threat posed by using the lights without cause.

Laws banning the lights except in hazardous road conditions took effect on July 1 last year. Read more

Death driver avoids prison term

An elderly Mount Gambier man who was the driver in a vehicle collision that killed his daughter late last year at Glenburnie was given a two-year good behaviour bond at the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Monday.

Lionel Alhard Von Der Borch, 80, was driving his Holden sedan south along Casterton Road on November 27 last year when he drove out in front of another vehicle on the Princes Highway. Read more

More tough new rules for P platers

In a move to further reduce South Australia’s road toll, the State Government will introduce legislation banning P1 and P2 drivers from getting behind the wheel of cars with eight cylinders under the hood.

Mount Gambier P-plater Erin Plunkett opposes raising the provisional licence age to 18 and says driving at 80kmh for the first year would be harsh.

Newly licensed young drivers are still too inexperienced to safely handle a vehicle, according to automotive safety research professor Craig Kloeden, who has advocated several reforms to help reduce the youth road toll. Read more
