Police investigate diving tragedy

Police are investigating the death of a Melbourne man at Moorak’s Kilsby Cave.

The man, aged 52 and from the eastern suburb of Langwarrin, died around noon on Saturday while diving with a friend, also from Victoria, who tried to save him when he got into trouble.

Police divers retrieved his body on Sunday afternoon and investigators are still awaiting post mortem results to assist in determining the cause of death.

Mount Gambier police have warned residents against giving money to a woman who claims to be raising money for the RSPCA.

Weapons wielded in Jarrah Street brawl

Car tyres and rims, sticks and bottles were among the weapons wielded on Jarrah Street, Mount Gambier, on Friday night in a wild brawl that resulted in a 17-year-old boy being admitted to hospital.

The injured youth was among 40 people fighting at around 10.30pm when police were called to the “large disturbance”. Read more

Police clamp down on illegal fog lights

Limestone Coast police will target drivers using vehicle fog lights illegally over the next two weeks to address the road safety threat posed by using the lights without cause.

Impounded car drives mates warning

Young car owners have been warned not to let mates borrow their cars after a youth was reported for misuse of a motor vehicle on Saturday night and police impounded the car, which did not belong to him.

Police apprehended the driver, a 17-year-old Naracoorte youth, on Porter Street following a public complaint regarding his manner of driving near the Moore Street swimming lake a short time earlier. Read more

Police blitz ends without major trouble

The national police blitz dubbed Operation Unite to curb alcohol-fuelled violence passed without major incident in Mount Gambier on the weekend.

Five Southern Traffic Enforcement officers, a Liquor Licensing Enforcement Branch officer, 10 Tactical Response Unit police and 11 members of the Limestone Coast police force patrolled the streets, pubs and clubs on Friday and Saturday nights. Read more
