Inaugural racing telecast delayed

The much awaited first Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club’s TAB Sunday meeting has been re-scheduled yet again, this time until early September.

Originally planned for early July, the MGGRC has been hindered by progress work at its Tara Raceway complex, particularly in the area of digital cables from TAB and Telstra. Read more

The Glencoe based Medhurst and Finnis families are grinning from ear to ear this week after scoring one of their biggest harness racing wins yet.

King Grin, a two-year-old offspring of leading dam, Roses In Paris, won the $50,000 Southern Cross Series for colts and geldings at Adelaide’s Globe Derby track on Saturday. Read more

Mount Gambier received a surprise visit from one of Australian motorsport’s  legendary drivers during the week.

While not as well known to the younger legions of fans, “Storming” Norm Beechey was a two time Australian Touring Car Champion and was an inspiration to many drivers including the late Peter Brock and Dick Johnson. Read more

Steve Lines up for sprintcar championship

A late change of plans – and a new sponsor – will see Mount Gambier driver Steve Lines compete in this year’s Australian Sprintcar Championship after all.

Family claims history making double

In a history making result, Saturday’s Alex Roberts Memorial Mount Gambier 100 Mile Classic, first and second placings went to a son and father double.

Geelong based Cameron Stewart (19) and his 53-year-old father Greg, scored an historic quinella, the first time ever a family duo has achieved that milestone. Read more
