Robe gun reaches the ton

Gun Robe full forward Phil Smith has become the first Mid South East footballer in six seasons to kick 100 goals.

Smith brought up his ton in stunning style on the weekend when he kicked 13 goals in Robe’s smashing 75-point victory over Tantanoola, which lifted the Roosters back into the top four. Read more

Board CEO sues Robe mayor

Prominent Mount Gambier bureaucrat Grant King has issued legal proceedings against Robe Mayor William Peden and the coastal town’s council for defamation.

Mr King, who is chief executive of the Limestone Coast Regional Development Board, has filed litigation papers with the District Court. Read more

Lucky escape from freak storm accident

A couple were lucky to escape relatively unscathed when a 12 metre pine tree branch fell on their caravan as they slept at Robe on
Tuesday night.

South East emergency services were relieved minimal damage was caused across the region when a strong front drove wild weather across the region, including around 1000 lightning strikes and gale force winds. Read more

Missing toddler found safe

March 23, 2009

A two-year-old boy sparked worry and dread in his parents by going missing on Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to a rural property near Robe in relation to the toddler’s disappearance and found him 3km away almost two hours later.

He was safe and did not need medical treatment.

Mayor criticises development board

The Limestone Coast Regional Development Board is “unsuitable” to handle federal money via Regional Development Australia, according to Robe mayor William Peden.

Speaking at the South East Local Government Association (SELGA) meeting in Naracoorte recently, Mr Peden said the development board “lacked good governance”. Read more

Billion-dollar wind farm project proposed

A proposed billion-dollar wind farm has been earmarked for 52km of the Woakwine Range.

The proposal, triple the size of the Lake Bonney Windfarm, involves up to 300 turbines producing 600 megawatts of energy — enough to power 132,000 homes.

The Woakwine Range stretches from Carpenter Rocks in the south to Mount Benson near Kingston and is already home to two windfarms. Read more
