New plans expected for shopping complex

A shopping centre developer will scrap plans to build a bulky goods retail centre on Mount Gambier’s northern gateway, but will lodge a fresh blueprint for a $70m shopping complex for the site.

Shoppers adapt to plastic bag ban

Six months into South Australia’s ban on checkout style plastic bags, the sale of green bags at Mount Gambier Fishers IGA store are slowing down.

When the ban was implemented on May 4, checkout operators had to deal with disgruntled shoppers who were outspoken about “wasting” 99 cents on a green bag, but six months on and after stocking up on enough green bags, customers have calmed down. Read more

Numbers go up in Commercial Street

Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce has been busy over the past few days placing numbers on shopfronts along Commercial Street to stop confusion among visitors and locals.

Retail spending dips slightly

Retailers experienced only a slight decrease in consumer spending in June, according to new National Retailers Association figures.

The data shows retail turnover in South Australia for June was 1.5pc lower (seasonally adjusted) than May.
This compared to the national retail turnover, which had a 1.4pc decrease during the same month. Read more

Plans lodged for $50m shopping centre

Supermarket giant Woolworths has lodged plans to build a $50m “market place shopping centre” on Mount Gambier’s northern gateway, which is expected to create 400 new jobs for the city.
