Former Mount Gambier soccer star Callum Ferguson took another huge step towards his dream of becoming a professional player last night.
Ferguson was selected to represent the Wimmera South Coast Eagles, a composite Under 21 development squad against the new A-League Melbourne Heart franchise. Read more
City hosts national soccer program

THE Round Ball – Mount Gambier’s community soccer development program – is hosting the National Championships of the Australian Premier Football Academy this week at Grant High School.
The tournament has attracted more than 150 soccer players to Mount Gambier and will provide the opportunity for local soccer players to measure their standard against the best that the city has on offer. Read more

Sharks hunt for players

With the 2010 Western Border Soccer Association season commencing on March 28, teams are being organised and training is underway at Gambier City Soccer Club — but the Sharks are facing a severe player shortage.
Sharks sports director John Bruttomesso said players for all teams, under 10, 12, 14 and 17 along with senior men are urgently required. Read more

Former Centrals Soccer Club best and fairest winner, Thomas Renzi has made his South Australian Super League debut.
Renzi, who will turn 20 later this month, started as a substitute in Adelaide Galaxy’s recent pre-season cup match against Adelaide Cobras. Read more
Centrals appoint new coach

Former Apollo goalkeeper Colin Smith has been appointed senior coach at Centrals.
Smith grew up in Adelaide where he played for Ingle Farm in the amateur league.
For the past three years Smith has been playing at Apollo and coaching the club’s under 17 side. Read more

Byron Deak appointed Sharks coach

Gambier City Sharks have appointed Byron Deak senior coach for the 2010 Western Border Soccer Association season.
Deak will be playing coach, replacing Ian Hill who stood down for family reasons just before the end of the 2009 season. Read more
