Violence features in school suspensions

Nearly 60 South East students were suspended from school in just one term last year because of violence.

The Department of Education and Children’s Services (DECS) released the region’s behaviour management data this week.

The figures show a total of 171 students (1.4pc of total students in the region) were suspended from schools in the Limestone Coast, compared with the state total of 4531 students suspended (2.7pc). Read more

SA the top for organ donors

South Australia has the highest rate of organ donation in Australia and one of the highest in the world.

In 2008, there were 43 organ donors in South Australia resulting in transplants to 120 recipients.

This translates to a rate of 27 donors per million population, and is by far the best rate in the country, according to Health Minister John Hill. Read more
