REMAINS from a shipwreck dating back almost 150 years have been discovered off the South East coast by a young diving enthusiast.

After a dedicated search for the site, 19-year-old Carl von Stanke and his friend Santiago Neumann found the 147-year-old wreckage from two masted brig ship Flying Cloud on Saturday.

They were free diving near Carpenter Rocks after suspecting the wreck had occurred nearby.

The ship was wrecked on April 4, 1870, and the wreckage sits in around six metres of water.
