DOZENS of families have been left in limbo following the sudden closure today of a long running childcare centre in Mount Gambier.

It is understood the financially crippled childcare operator will be placed in voluntary administration as early as next week.

Operators of The Neighbourhood Childcare Centre - located on Keegan Street and one of the oldest centres in Mount Gambier - only notified stunned parents late Wednesday night that the centre would close today.

The Border Watch also understands other childcare centres in Mount Gambier were yesterday inundated with inquiries from families displaced by the closure.
