THE State Government will start tearing apart a number of Glenelg River shacks within weeks as it steps up its campaign to erase dozens of the iconic structures from the landscape.

It is understood five shack owners have received letters from the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources' crown land section warning the structures will be demolished in just two weeks.

Property owners have been told to remove "personal goods or chattels" before April 28 or any material left will be forfeited to the crown.
