A MAN is lucky to be alive after waking to a loud bang on the door from his neighbour who noticed the adjacent property was in flames.

Neighbour Craig "Taz" Hooper spoke to the media when he was approached by The Border Watch this week following earlier reports of the blaze.

He said he was about to head to work at 2.35am on Monday when he looked at the house across the street and noticed something unusual.

"I looked up and I kind of saw it move, then realised there were flames coming out of the roof," Mr Hooper said.
