A MOUNT Gambier resident whose father died from "suboptimal" medical treatment has called for health authorities to adopt the string of recommendations handed down by the coroner.

Jenny Johnson yesterday spoke out publicly for the first time regarding her father's death to push for change in the regional health system.

Edward John Mayell, 83, died on October 5, 2014, from Legionnaires' disease after presenting initially to the Millicent Hospital.

The Beachport resident was then transferred to Mount Gambier Hospital and later airlifted to the Flinders Medical Centre.
